Lecture 14: Black Hole Thermodynamics

In this lecture, we rounded off our discussion of black hole thermodynamics by considering the first and zeroth law of black holes. To phrase these laws precisely, we needed to introduce the concept of surface gravity. The first law then simply states that:

dM = k dA /(8 pi)  + (work-terms)

and the zeroth law states that the surface gravity is constant over the horizon of a stationary black hole.
